If you are like me, someone who is constantly fascinated with composing close ups shots but at the same time frustrated by the need to carry heavy telephoto lenses, bearing the possibility of camera blurs and poor lighting conditions that long telephoto lenses can bring about. The Olympus C2100 can seem like a dream too good to come true.

To start with, the C2100 boast of a 10X Image stabilized zoom, which translates into 35mm equivalent of a 38 - 380mm lens. The C-2100 Ultra Zoom reportedly is the first Olympus digital camera to offer a 10X image stabilized all-glass aspherical zoom lens, which is set to reduce unwanted user camera shake for a clearer and steadier image often associated with long telephoto zoom lenses. In addition to this, the 7mm to 70mm (38-380mm 35mm equivalent) lens is designed for digital photography and matched to the C-2100 Ultra Zoom's CCD all in the name of greater photographic results.

The C2100 all-glass aspherical zoom lens that promises to reduce camera shake is one great expectation that I hope they can truly fulfill. After a series of shots with day/night experimentations, I was pleasantly surprised by it’s ability to allow me to take clearer pictures especially at night thus sparing me the future agony of lugging a tripod to steady my shots. Besides this, the C2100 is a breeze to use for me because it has provides one with the feature of a point-and-shoot camera despite bearing all the advanced features of a digital SLR. Like most Olympus, it also comes with a remote control, which is indeed a plus!

However like any other cameras in its league, the C2100 has its down sides. A main frustration to speak of is the rate at which the battery depletes. After a full charge and an hour or less into exploring the features of the camera, I am already greeted by a low battery warning, which certainly is a cause for concern especially among those who intend to take the C2100 into the wild. Other than that, I must admit that I’m quite enthralled by the features that C2100 promises on better digital imaging, leaving me hankering after what future digital technology can bring.
